Christian Swenson and Helen Walkley

1982–1985

Christian and I co-founded a duet company and created three full length works—Solos/Duets, We Dance, and A Mind to Move—which we performed extensively throughout the west and northeast of the U.S. including: On the Boards/Northwest New Works, California State University (Fresno, CA), The Two Ravens Festival in the forest and mountains of central Idaho*, Dance Theatre Workshop (NYC), Smith College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, and Danceworks (Toronto); rural to urban to academic.

*From Boise take State Highway 21 north (85 miles). Turn right between mile marker 85 and 86. From Ketchum take State Highway 21 south past Grand Jeans (90 miles).

"Their precision of timing and motion is nearly magical. Most important, I believe, is their unfailing presentation of the human condition whether performing their works or the dances of others."

Stephen A. Heck, Seattle dance critic

"Compelling performers with passionate emotional intensity and a fine feeling for movement."

Renate Strauss, Seattle Times

"Both are pungently witty as performers and choreographers. Both ask the audience to experience things with them. They care about what they do and they care about the world. They are a significant part of the reason Seattle’s dance scene is so vibrant."

Jae Carlson, Patio Table

"There is a finally wrought precision about their work which commands attention."

Michael Crabb, the Toronto Star
